Reading Cigarette Card & Postcard Club Fair 2011
This year’s Postcard and Cigarette Card Fair at Rivermead Leisure Centre on July 3rd, 2011 was an outstanding success again with 550 collectors visiting the Fair throughout the day, which was an increase on last year’s attendance. Some regulars had travelled from Cornwall for the day, another annual visitor had come by train from Inverness, while two ‘first time’ visitors journeyed down from Yorkshire. Wherever you came from we wish to thank you for supporting our Fair in ever increasing numbers and hope that you enjoyed your day and found some ‘treasures’ to add to your collection, and will continue to support our future fairs. We would also like to thank the 93 dealers and their assistants who likewise travelled long distances, from as far away as Edinburgh, Durham, Lancashire, East Anglia and Wales, as well as the Southern, Western and Midland counties, we hope that you had a successful and enjoyable day and will come again next year. The Fair is the highlight event of the Club’s year, and without the visitors, dealers, and club members we could not run such a popular and well supported Fair. We received the support of the trade and local press both before and after the event, two local newspapers sent reporters and photographers on the day and gave the Club, the Fair and the hobby some good publicity with reports and photos.
As well as the Fair, the club also held it’s Annual Display Board Competition, and asked the public and dealers to judge the members display boards in three categories, Postcards, Cigarette / Trade cards, and thirdly Mixed entry class. (143 Judging slips were filled in, a superb response!!!)
Congratulations to the winners who were :
Postcards (Collectors Fair Trophy) : 1st, Coral Print with her entry : “A Mixture of Shopfronts”.
Cigarette / Trade cards (The President’s Trophy) : 1st, Roy Hathaway with “Tea or Coffee”.
Mixed Cards, (The Kimberley Cup) : 1st, Michael Tubb with “Farming-The Good Old Days”
Next year’s Fair will take place on
Sunday, July 1st at Rivermead Leisure Centre, Reading. We hope that you can make it, put the date in your diaries now to avoid clashing with your holiday bookings in 2012. You won’t want to miss it !!!!!
